£1.7 million available for building repairs in St Leonards

The Townscape Heritage Initiative is a building repairs grant scheme aimed at helping communities regenerate the historic parts of their town. Hastings Borough Council has obtained a further £1.7 million Heritage Lottery funding for a 3-year scheme for Central St Leonards. Grant applications will be considered up to December 2009.

General aid levels on items of repair eligible under the scheme can reach a maximum of 50%. Items of eligible restoration including historically appropriate shop-fronts, a maximum of 75% .

Provided repairs and restoration do relate to exterior parts of the building and that the defects on the whole of a property are being fully addressed and to an acceptable standard, grant aid can support repair of the following:-
Structural repair, chimney repair, rainwater goods, wall repairs, railings and ironwork
roof repairs, lead-work, exterior doors and windows, canopy and balcony repairs and external works

“Grab – a – Grand” – The Hastings Training Fund

The Hastings Training Fund was created to help local businesses train their staff to maximise the potential of the business, the individual and Hastings as a whole. Under the Headline of ‘Grab a Grand’ the project was launched in final quarter of 2006 to a hive of interested parties and quickly outstripped all expectations ensuring over £80,000 was paid into the town by the end of April 2007.

As the project prepares to launch its new phase for a new financial year there is expected to be just as much interest and the help that is available is being especially focussed towards addressing market imbalances that have occurred in the past.

In order to apply you will need to contact Sussex Enterprise on 0845 67 888 67 or by email info@sussexenterprise.co.uk in order to receive an application pack and as long as all the eligibility criteria are fulfilled funding can be provided for anything up to £1,000 of the cost of training.

Remember! – free Town Centre Management membership for 12 months for businesses training staff in Customer Service skills and the Hastings and St Leonards Customer Service Award on completion of the course
