Foodlocal Hastings is a new two-year project which aims to grow
and develop fisheries and food industries in the town (such as
restaurants, cafes, food shops and food providers) and to help
provide routes into employment in the food sector.
Hastings & St Leonards is a great destination for top-class
local food and drink, restaurants and cafes. Over the next two
years we will work to develop entrepreneurship, signpost to
business support and funding, and identify training needs in the
food sector.
This project is run by Hastings Borough Council, and builds on
the success which it has had gaining world-wide recognition for
Hastings fish. Because of the environmentally sensitive and
sustainable way the fish are caught, the Hastings fleet has
become one of a handful certified by the Marine Stewardship
Council.
This is reflected in the hugely popular annual Seafood and Wine
Festival. Our superb locally caught fish and other produce from
the town and surrounding area, along with our finest
restaurants, will be showcased at this annual event on 22nd –
23rd September 2007 (see www.visithastings.com/events).
