Town Centre
Central St Leonards Regeneration
In 2005 the St Leonards Regeneration Framework was unveiled.
The improvement of St Leonards town centre is one of 3
programmes within the overall framework.
In the area bordered by St Leonards Station, Kings Road,
Western Road and London Road, the framework proposes the
following:
- An improvement in the quality of the public realm
(footpaths, roadways, street furniture etc)
- The identification of potential development sites
- The determination of new parking and access projects
- The improvement of retail provision including the
quality and appearance of existing shops and premises
- The use of the town centre as a key link between the
station and the seafront
- The creation of a focal point for the area that people
can feel proud of
- A major link between other successful regeneration
schemes in the location
5 key practical projects are envisaged; -
Alpha Site Café (station plaza)
– the provision of affordable homes
Kings Road Environmental Improvements
– creating a safer and more relaxed shopping environment
Business Support Programme
– for businesses on Kings Road helping them to maximise new
business
Crystal Square Car Park
– a significant development delivering new housing, jobs and
shops – greatly improving the retail offer of central St
Leonards
Connecting Town and Seafront – The Junction of London Road
and the A259
- improving the flow of pedestrian traffic at this key
junction and marking it out as a key arrival point
